365/150: It Does't Get Much Cuter Than This!

Took a break from the dissertation this afternoon to visit a good friend and her 3 kids! They are getting so big! This is Luke! He is adorable! Great shot for today- full of smiles and sunshine!

365/149: Looking Up

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Look up today and make a photograph of the sky. Cloudy, clear, or somewhere in between? Tell the story of your sky today.

I actually shot this while driving home from Fashion Island- after a great 1:1 on Aperture at the Apple Store and some serious retail therapy...I wasn't actually looking up when I took this. The sun is so bright even in this image- I could have tweaked this image a lot in Aperture but really wanted to keep the sky the same blue that it was- there isn't a cloud in the sky today and the weather couldn't be nicer! This sun's for you!

365/146: One Day Before Full Moon

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment : Lose the rectangle today. Make a photograph with a square (1:1) aspect ratio and post it.

Square Moon! This is the night before the full moon- the coolest part of shooting the moon so many nights this week is watching it turn, the pattern is moving to the left...very cool! I seriously need a better telephoto! This was actually shot at ISO 800 1/4000 with F/5.6 for those that care!

365/145: Almost Full Moon

Two days until the FUll Moon! I need a better telephoto- imagine what kind of pictures I could get then...This looks almost 3-D in this photo.

365/144: Through the Looking Glass

IN my attempt to photograph something purple for the Daily Shoot- I ended up with this...granted- I don't think it qualifies for purple- although the bottom of the image is a purplish....but it is a cool shot through....can you guess what you are looking at or through? Bonus points to those that can!

365/143: Blue Moon

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Sunday challenge time: Make a landscape photo (natural or urban). Create something that you'd want to put on your wall.

Yes...My moon! Four Days away from the Full Moon! I might have to photograph it each day until then!

365/142: Candle Box

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Baskets, bags, and boxes: containers often go unnoticed. Make a photo focused on the container rather than the contents. This is the box to one of my favorite candles. It is the kind of box I might keep- if I were a hoarder- lol- but I'm not...Now at least I have a picture of it!

365/141: My Many Moons

Besides clouds, flowers and my dogs...Moons are the next thing I am infatuated with when it comes to photography. I love getting shots like this. (ISO1600 f/5.6 1/4000 300mm)

365/138: My Current Life

Currently working on Chapter 2: Literature Review of my dissertation! I am really enjoying all of the research and reading, but don't have enough hours in the day/night to get it done. If I only didn't need sleep. And how do you know when it is time to stop reading and start writing...each article takes me in a different direction. I need to things...focus spray and osmosis by holding book to head. :)

365/137: Remains of a Bird Scuffle

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Black can be dramatic. Go for as much black in a photo as you can with lots of oomph, character, and depth.

This is the remains of an apparent bird scuffle on my roof last night...the feathers are all over my front stoop and yard...but so far I have found no other remains. Hopefully the bird only lost these feathers! It was difficult to shoot without breaking out the ladder- luckily I have a good telephoto.

365/136: Sunday Self-Portrait

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Sunday Challenge: Make a self-portrait, with or without the camera in the frame. This is about the only time I took my nose out of this book today. Sorry I didn't have it in me to be more creative...but you have to be slightly impressed that you can read the words on the book and they aren't backwards....lol

365/134: A Shadow in My Research

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Find an interesting shadow--any shadow--and make a photograph of it. Consider your framing as you shoot.

This was completely unplanned-AS I WAS TRYING to read some research for my lit review and Rocket kept dropping the ball right on my papers...all of a sudden I noticed the shadow of his head framed perfectly in my paper. A photo op I couldn't resist and of course he made it easy because as long as I kept throwing the ball, he kept retrieving it and dropping it again.

365/133: A Dog's Life

Today was a beautiful day! My dog's had a great day, they played ball, went for a run (well Zoey did), swam in the pool, Zoey attacked the hose as she likes to do....and we end the evening with more ball- Rocket was watching Zoey jump high for the balls, dreaming of his younger years...and I was testing out my new monopod....allows me to throw balls and snap pictures synchronously! Love it!

365/132: My Dog and his Folded Tongue Trick

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Pick an everyday subject and get as close as you can to it. Make a photograph and post it!

Rocket's tongue is so long that when he is tired from playing too much ball, he folds it - of course on purpose- he is brilliant you know! I also know that this was what you wanted to see up close and personal today!

365/131: My Everyday Tool

Yesterday’s Daily Shoot assignment: What tools do you use and appreciate on a daily basis? Make an interesting photo of one such tool today.

This is a tool I couldn't live without- my Chuckit. And there is my little thief that wouldn't even let me use her ball for a minute to take this photo! LOL I couldn't have planned a better picture if I tried...gotta love dogs!

365/130: Neighborhood Church

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Pay attention to your surroundings today. Make a photo of something you walk by every day without noticing.

I can see this from my backyard and walk or drive by it every single day..but have never captured it in a picture.  In fact, it looks a lot nicer in this shot than it does from my backyard. :) Probably because I have never paid much attention to it!  I love my DailyShoot assignments!

365/129: Fun With Soap

Had dinner with my sister for Mother's Day. I still love the foamy soap they make for kids...and since Today’s Daily Shoot assignment is:
Make a photo that contains today's date in it somehow. Maybe abstract representation of the numbers. Maybe literally.

I decided to get creative with the soap. Happy Mother's Day everyone!

365/128:Absolutely Gorgeous

The weather that is....Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Make a photograph that illustrates the last few days of weather wherever you've been. This past week has been the kind of weather that reminds me why I live in Southern California! Days are just perfect and nights are a little chilly...but not too bad. These are days I would usually spend entirely outside gardening and playing with the dogs...when I am not working on my dissertation! :)

365/125: Tennis Balls

Once you own labs, you look at tennis balls differently. Sure, they are great for the tennis courts but they are also one of my dogs favorite things. They are all over the house and yard, almost tripping me once a day, they are delivered to me no matter where I am or how I am dressed, slobbery and wet, they are placed by my feet, on my lap or in my bed. I spend hours each day throwing them to my dogs- a daily ritual-I couldn't live without. Feel free to save your dead balls and drop them by any time. :)

365/124: Black Labrador Retriever Statue

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Find a statue, sculpture, or fountain and make a photograph of it today. Consider the time of day and light.

This is a statue I got at our annual DSF Visions Gala. It was a great cause! I love how it is casting it's shadow right now. Yup-I'm a geek!

365/123: Composition of a Wall

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Make a composition of a wall and what is against it: art, shelves, etc. Consider the rule of thirds and watch your light. Back in July, 1998 when I purchased my 1930's little cottage, this was the first piece of art I bought for my house. I still love it to this day! I changed the colors to sepia but the roses still have a hint of red on them. My walls are the old cedar walls where you have to hang something on both sides of the wall or else the nail goes through! Single sheet of wood! I love my old house.

365/121: Traditional Persian Wedding Ceremony

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment: Make two photos today of the same subject: one with deep depth of field, one with shallow. Post your favorite of the two.

Today, I attended a good friend's wedding.  It was absolutely beautiful - and my first traditional Persian Wedding Ceremony.  This was the Sofreh-ye Aghd.  The elaborately decorated spread in front of the bride and groom contains several items each symbolizing a different aspect of the ancient religion.
